A veritable plethora of scribbled tsatskes

Tuesday, September 17
According to the dates posted within this carnet de vie (pardon the French...no I never took the damned subject in high school...thank goodness for online dictionaries) I have not graced these virtual pages for nigh on 20 days. A lot has gone on in those 2 1/2 weeks. Namely, a little weekend jaunt to Monterey to visit some expatriates who have returned to the homeland of the Central Coast from a two-year sojourn into the Academic Wilds of Davis, California. It was wonderful to experience again the joys of putting on a second layer of clothing. I was so thrilled to be cold!! Oh, and garlic fries and jellies at the Aquarium. Need I say more?!? OK - I guess I will. It was all quite faboo (especially meeting Miss DC, who made me feel like Garfield to her Nermal) and never was there a more yummy quesadilla than the one at Monterey Mom's house.

I suppose I should say something about September 11th. It came. It went. I didn't wear red white or blue. In fact, I don't even remember what I wore that day, because, more importantly in my life, it was my second day of work. YES! I finally have a job!!! A real live job working 40 hours a week with benefits to knock on my door at the end of 90 days. Just in time for the New Year. Dig my job title - Information Specialist in the Data Integrity department of the Claims division. Love that. I actually do not have "assistant" in my job title. I think that's a first on my resume. Which now, unfortunately, will have to go over that requisite one pager. Third party medical claims administration. 3 hours from first hearing about the job to being hired ("Can you start tomorrow? Great! We'll see you at 7:30!!"). And, surprisingly, I'm loving it. I like my co-workers. They make me take breaks. I am reminded to eat lunch. I don't mind doing the work. Very scary thing, here...oh, and it's like ten minutes from my house. Suh-weet!

So today's extra special rant is about Fundraising for Schools. I have been subjected within the past 72 hours to the following: 3 chocolate bars (at $1.00 each, but you get $1.00 off your next foot-long sub at Subway!!) , 2 raffle tickets for St. Bridget of Sweden's Fall Festival ("Win a trip to Hawaii for two! Plus $250 spending cash!!), and finally $15.25 shelled out for a set of four floating candles and some gourmet spice collection from two girls who are the daughters of my neighbor. Several things to note-- I'm still figuring out the math and the caloric intake of the chocolate-Subway connection. Also, I am not used to a well-funded parish. The second prize for this particular raffle is $1,000!! In my heyday at good ole' St. Michael's, the grand prize used to be a turkey. But this is SoCal. Oh, and finally. I thought my neighbor was gay. That, or he's being a good Armenian. Whatever. I'm gossiping, and I shouldn't be. Baaad Subvervia. The icing on the cake is the knowledge that I will be pumping more funds into my nephew AND niece (she just started Pre-K two weeks ago) as they do their annual Pimpin' Fo' Educashun. Now, should I buy the Warner Bros. gift bags or the Peanuts gift tags?!?!? Decisions, decisions...
